Visualizing rural Bihar's 'Tight Lipped Talent' with Sankarshan Thakur

As we are in midway of Lok Sabha elections 2019, Bihar is set play an important decisive role in formation of government at the centre. In midst of election manoeuvre crucial, relevant and fundamental aspects of Bihar's society are often left behind either intentionally or unintentionally. But this didn't happen in case of our tour to report subaltern areas of Bihar.

Accompanying veteran journalist, the roving editor of The Telegraph Sankarshan Thakur a rich extraordinary talent based in Bihar's village was seen in Samastipur district. Thakur Saheb's desire to search a nursery to buying few saplings to get them planted in Singhwara (his paternal village home) came up during conversation while reporting.

We were successful in finding out a nursery but that was unique in every aspect springing a surprise for us which was out of our imagination. It was owned by Arun Kumar, an individual with hard-working physical built and soft spoken lingual trait. While choosing saplings of Jackfruit(Kathal) , Pomogranat (Bedana) and Guava (Amrud) we went into political discussion where he spelled out his choice ridiculing education system in Lalu Yadav's era of politics and pinning hope on shoulders of Nitish, he hinted to his deep rooted regret...

While packing saplings Arun expressed his anguish in a calm tone and said- I am a graduate in Chemistry (Hons.) from Samastipur College but unfortunately landed up running a nursery adding up.. this is Bihar.

After buying saplings, we bid a goodbye with folded hands loaded with respect for his die hard efforts enriching roots of society and resumed back our journey. We were bereft after listening helpless saga of rural man who was educated enough to earn a livelihood with much more ease. Presently he earns livelihood by running the nursery which is no less prideful but at the same time our regret was all over on his deserving potential to contribute Bihar's growth with much exploration and experimentation.

It wouldn't be incorrect to say that villages of Bihar are unexplored mines of educated individuals such as Arun Kumar who certainly deserve more in terms of income & dignity but their existence is an unseen, unheard & unrecognised reality, remains the bottom line of subaltern Bihar.
