India doesn’t deserves “A Beautiful Mind”
Dr.
Vashshith Narayan Singh with his flute
In 2001 a movie named- A Beautiful Mind through Hollywood got
featured in public domain that was based on world’s renowned mathematician Dr.
John Forbes Nash. Dr. Nash was awarded the Nobel Prize in economics for “Game
Theory” that gained pace and recognition in field of economics throughout the
globe. Likewise, India also had a beautiful mind named Dr. Vashishtha Narayan
Singh. Both, Dr. Nash and Dr. Vashshith shared similar life events of early recognition of their intelligence, a
brilliant record in academics and later diagnosis of schizophrenia.
Sadly, the mathematical mind of highest order hailing from Bhojpur district of
Bihar passed away during morning hours of 14th November 2019.
Dead
body of Vashshith Narayan Singh on a stretcher at PMCH
His demise cannot be
termed normal and moreover he had to face wrath of Bihar’s public healthcare but how? After his death, his body lied on stretcher and was made to wait for
ambulance in despair within hospital premises. Narayan’s brother, Ayodhya Prasad, alleged that his body was kept in the
open as the hospital management kept them waiting for an ambulance for an hour.
Vashishtha Narayan Singh in
despair
One of
the best scientific mind was ridiculed by Bihar government and forgotten by
society for years. Dr. Vashishtha kept himself in exile from his home in Bihar.
His family members accept the fact that he was found loitering near a garbage
dump in a village. But Lalu Yadav was the last Chief Minister who laid emphasis
on his deteriorating health. He had sent him to NIMHANS, Bengaluru, and offered
government jobs to five of his family members keeping the impoverished
condition of his family and actor Shatrughan Sinha also arranged for
Vashishtha’s treatment at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences
(IHBAS), New Delhi.
With doctorate from University of California with dissertation in “Reproducing Kernels and Operators with Cyclic Vector”; undertaking manual calculations during launch program of Apollo satellite by NASA; expertise as faculty at IIT Kanpur, TIFR Mumbai and ISI Kolkata and known for challenging Einstein’s theory of relativity, had to lead his life in anonymity with a mental disorder. Sometime back, his family members reiterated that Vashshitha babu returned from USA with books filled in 10 trunks and express a concern that what would happen to them after he dies?...still he’s habituated to use pen, pencil, rubber and paper.
The
question remains- Do we deserve such a beautiful mind? Or did we do justice to
a legendary mathematician Dr. Vashshitha Narayan Singh by not recognizing his
potential and intelligence? The act of loneliness that his dead body had to face,
spells the most selfish and insane character of our lawmakers, the government officials at
state’s premier government hospital and the society as whole
We don’t
deserve you- Vashshith Babu..
Apologies!
